"Instead of making honeycomb, bees in an Apiary will slowly fill up any frames you've put inside instead."
Frames are used in Apiaries to collect Bee products and Honey. Bees will work in Apiaries without any frames inserted, but no bee products will be formed, only offspring bees.
Filters are similar to frames but can only be used in the Filtration Hive underwater, and are used to help clean up Sludge.
